Hillview
Apartments - Hollywood, CA
The glitter had
faded, the star had dimmed since the Historic Hillview Apartments
were last occupied in 1994. City officials had declared the building
unsafe after the Northridge Earthquake, damage from a sinkhole
caused during nearby subway construction and an arson fire that
greatly damaged top floor and roof of the building. Enter the
partnership of The Great Lakes Companies and Landgraf Construction
with the vision of restoring the “Hillview” to it’s former grandeur.

The
four-story Hillview apartments is said to be the oldest apartment
building on Hollywood Boulevard. Built in 1917 by movie mogul’s
Jesse L. Lasky founder of Famous Players-Lasky the forerunner of
Paramount Studio’s and his brother-in-law Samuel Goldwyn to house
many stars through the years the “Hillview” housed according to
director Douglas Carlton “everybody that was anybody”. Famous
tenants include: Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel, Mae Busch and Viola
Dana.
The
54 unit “Mediterranean Style” apartment building is being restored
to it’s 1917 glory by Landgraf Construction. Original features have
been restored
including murphy beds, hardwood floors and unique built-ins. A
10,000 square foot café/bistro is occupying the space that once
housed a speakeasy. With
constant input from the Heritage Hollywood Foundation, Landgraf
Construction proved to be the right choice to “restore this national
treasure to its former beauty” ... “Hillview will once again be the
premiere place to live in Hollywood.” |
